Daypart Squeeze Leads to Emphasis at Dinner
Many consumers are working at home and choosing to eat lunch there as well
As a result, they’re increasingly seeking away-from-home meals during breakfast, dinner, or weekend brunch. Using ingredients that work across dayparts can help capture interest for both breakfast and dinner without adding a lot of complexity. As you work to capture the important dinner occasion, keep in mind that it is increasingly enjoyed off-premise. Almost two-thirds of Canadian consumers (64%) order dinner for off-premise once a month, up from 59% in 2020.* The primary reason they are ordering for off-premise more often is that ordering for takeout or delivery is convenient and saves time. For that reason, you will need to focus on efficiency as part of the consideration set for off-premise dinner occasions. Diners are anxious to relax and enjoy their evening after a long day and don’t want to spend much of their evening waiting for their meal. Consider prep time when selecting what items to include in your menu. Further, when ordering takeout or delivery, the occasion increasingly involves a group (rather than a single individual). This presents an opportunity for items meant for sharing. And finally, ensure your offerings include dishes or ingredients that travel well.
