Special Occasions Will Drive Visits

Rising prices mean consumers are dining out less frequently.

In fact, 58% of Canadian consumers agree that inflation has made them more cautious about how often they visit restaurants. It is important to recognize, however, that while overall traffic is down, consumers are not spending less when they do choose to visit restaurants.

After a long pandemic, consumers desire social connection, and when they dine out, they expect high-quality food and beverage that will make for memorable experiences with family or friends. Whether off- or on-premise, the key is  making the occasion feel celebratory, with special offerings not easily replicated at home, elevated ingredients, and impeccable service. A note of caution: while consumers understand that prices have gone up, it’s still important that your prices are in line with your competitive set.  A majority of consumers (84%) agree that menu prices being in line with similar restaurants is important or very important when selecting a restaurant.**
